Giorgio Armani’s Legacy
Giorgio Armani, fashion icon and founder of the Armani luxury fashion house, passed away earlier this month at the age of 91. Opening his own studio in 1975, Armani is known for his silhouettes and minimal architectural suits, playing with masculine and feminine forms. He has left a legacy in fashion, hotels, and beyond. Considered one of the most successful and important modern fashion designers, his work will be highly regarded for many years to come. In both his fashion designs and interiors, simplicity, proportion, and light create environments that endure. We look forward to seeing how his work shapes many designers in the future as well.

At Jean-Marc Fray, we are especially inspired by Armani’s use of proportion, materials, and clean lines. The surprising simplicity brings out the best of the space and showcases who he is as a designer and person. The touches of animal print and art are inviting and draw the eye. Many of the moments within each of his many homes can be replicated to create rooms that emanate luxury and quiet strength. The Armani Inspiration
Inspired by the restrained grandeur found within Armani’s many homes, we are especially moved by the quality and materials. Many of his rooms contain comfortable seating that is oversized, playing with proportion and lines. This Minotti sofa incorporates both the high quality Italian leather and the deep shape consistent in Armani’s living spaces. Likewise, many of his living rooms contain coffee tables of glass and metal – both highly contemporary yet with elements of history. This copper coffee table incorporates an Art Deco design element while keeping the straight, simple lines. For Armani’s lamp choices, a recurring theme is large lamps with visually light bases. These beautiful ceramic lamps continue these elements as they are large in scale while their shape gives them a light ethereal quality.
While accessorizing is limited in his space, the clean aesthetic allows the few chosen items to really pop. Taking cue from many of his rooms, we love the small accents of animal print that bring both a pattern and a bit of added drama to the space. These Art Deco stools are the perfect touch of leopard print to do just that! Sculptural elements can also be found within Armani’s homes. Almost all of them include images and figures of large cats. These Egyptian style bronzes mimic his use of cat imagery while also included a bit of extra character. Finally, lighting is always important to Armani. By using lamps throughout his space he controls the lighting throughout. Using chrome finishes, we love his use of metal as well. This beautiful column lamp has elements of classical timelessness while a chrome finish brings some modernism.
Finally, playing with material and proportion is a favorite within his interiors and his runway looks.
