“The details are not the details. They make the design.” – Charles Eames

At Jean-Marc Fray Antiques it is no secret how much emphasis we place on a well curated space. Though every piece in a room has it’s own importance, nothing makes an impact quite like the perfect buffet. The right case piece delicately balances beauty and functionality, detail and influence. For our next featured item we are showcasing this Neoclassical Modernist French buffet. The soft curves of the inlay create a lovely femininity, while the green marble slab and clean lines lend it masculine aspects as well. Please enjoy learning more about this piece and seeing how we suggest to style a unique buffet!

Neoclassical Modernist French Buffet

The warm tones of the flamed sycamore wood first invite the eye to the credenza. The colors are juxtaposed by the darker inlay and create depth. The ebonized legs also emphasize the range of colors throughout. One of the most striking elements of the buffet is the original Pietra Verde marble slab which brings a mixture of greens to the palette. This credenza is a perfect mixture of opposites – masculine and feminine, Modernist and classic, strong and soft. And finally, this beautiful piece provides a wonderful amount of functional storage as well! We love the impact it has on a space, from entry to dining room and beyond.

How to Style the Buffet

As a buffet tends to be one of the larger pieces in a room, there are many ways to shape the space around it. One of our favorite ways to draw attention to the clean lines of the buffet is to lean into the curves of other pieces around it.

In this example, the curved items also bring out the delicate details of the inlay on the Modernist French buffet as well. Additionally, we relied on light, understated colors such as cream, white, and taupe. This helps to not over power the warm wood of the buffet or the green marble. The soft upholstery and arching forms of the armchairs make them a perfect option that brings an inviting coziness. The rounded forms are brought in again with this Travertine coffee table. The stone material gives an organic touch while continuing the soft tones. Finally, the Murano glass accessories used throughout bring tradition and elegance to the space. The purple vases and modern lamps also use circular shapes, while the Fuga mirror creates a focal point for the room. Please feel free to contact us if looking for additional assistance in placing this buffet, or any of our available case pieces, in your home.
