Palazzo Spinelli
The B-Arch studio restored the Palazzo Spinelli, a magnificent building in the historic center of Florence, which has become the townhouse of a couple of fashion entrepreneurs. The Palazzo Spinelli is a spectacular 15th century building attributed to the architect Bernardo Rossellino known for having long housed a famous school of art. Located just a few steps from the Santa Croce basilica, Palazzo Spinelli gives us the best of Florentine Renaissance architecture.
t is in this place that Silvia Mazzoli, 56, stylist and entrepreneur, creator of the Ottod’Ame brand, and Giani Guastella, 59, also stylist and entrepreneur, founder of the Dixie brand, reside. Both Florentine by birth and passionate about their work, the couple defines themselves as “aesthetic, lovers of art, music and cinema”. When choosing where they wanted to live they kept in mind that they wanted to fully live the experience of the city, and be able to invite their friends and host great dinners, while being a few steps from the most beautiful sites of Florence.
The new design for Palazzo Spinelli, implements the studio’s approach to historic buildings; a modus operandi that always begins with a research phase that allows the designers to fully understand the context and the building. It was crucial to be able to design an intervention based on the “respect” of the past, without ever losing sight of the contemporary purpose of their work. They like the term “restoration that cannot be seen”, rediscovering the signs of the past and reintegrating them into a path of vitality and change with lightness. Their goal is to always rediscover the original beauty of architecture without ever erasing the traces of past, the layers that history has written on its walls, and in its interiors.
