This season, Moschino stunned Milan Fashion Week with their artistically curated line inspired by Pablo Picasso. Creative Director, Jeremy Scott transformed the catwalk into a living museum in which models with painted hair and structured dresses walked through an ornate gold frame at the center stage. This theatrical combination of art and fashion made it feel as if Picasso and his myriad of muses had traveled to the world of contemporary fashion.

The dresses featured characters of Picasso’s paintings such as the Harlequin, The Mademoiselle d’Avignon, and his notorious lover and muse Jacqueline. Golden imitations of frames enveloped some of the figures while others appeared as if they had escaped from their two-dimensional surfaces into the third dimension. Common motifs such as “le journal”, guitars, flamingo polka-dot dresses, matadors, and whores further celebrated Picasso’s life and influence in Spain and France. To top it off, Moschino signed some of their pieces in the furious and scribbled manor that Picasso did his paintings.

Going by his statement, Jeremy Scott claims that “Muses inspire artists and artists inspire the world.” In this collection, Moschino demonstrated an age-old tradition of fashion and art: designers and artists interpreting their past counterparts as a way of discovering and creating a new innovative vision and voice for the future.
