Chalet-inspired design

As the holidays continue to draw near, we’ve shifted our mindset from hearth designs to holiday travels. This brings us to the most popular travel destination for the French – the French Alps.  When we think of mountainside getaways, we’re immediately inspired by chalet design. We’re talking about architecture, furniture, overall look and feel, and lighting.

The home above is nestled in Courcheval, France. There is something so inviting about the clean lines, mix of wood, metal and glass. Endless views of snowcapped bliss.

What would we bring to a space like the above? To start – vintage rugs, leather armchairs, textiles from our friends at James Showroom, antique tables from our gallery…just to name a few.

Neutrals with a small pop of color – a great way to cozy up this winter-time home.

This eclectic space was part of a renovation of a structure from 1870, located in the town of Megéve in the French Alps. A perfect holiday hideaway, decorated by Lionel Jadot.

We are taken back in time with this antique-inspired approach to a French Chalet. This room is rich with solid wood and art. We have several rustic tables and columns to support a space like this.

Ralph Lauren always knows how to bring together antiques with raw wood materials – and even organic material like antlers. While this particular chalet is not located in the French Alps, we can imagine how after visiting you’d never want to leave! This space is full of navajo textiles and western memorabilia, but we think this space would be well-suited in the French Alps if you simply switched out a few pieces for some of our latest accessories.

This bedroom is striking and therapeutic. Between the lofted wooden beams and the vintage rug spanning the raw wooden floors, it wouldn’t take much to compliment the overall space. The room would be perfection with the addition of an antique bench, nightstands and a pair of  vintage armchairs, and this bedroom would be complete.

This chalet screams “holiday” – mostly because of the Christmas tree in the background, but also because of the warmth provided by the chandeliers and the stacks of books sitting closely by the sectional. We imagine that our Murano Glass chandeliers could bring an absolute awe-factor to a space just like this.

Chalet Gentianes is a luxury chalet located in Courcheval 1850 in France. No detail was forgotten in designing and outfitting this beautiful home – from the elegant decor to the amenities given to guests from the moment they arrive. We’re ultimately in love with the simplicity of this particular bedroom – natural oak beams, warm recessed lighting and ivory bedding and furniture. We just can’t get enough.

One can’t forget the element of detail and design when it comes to the architecture of a chalet. We love the wrap around terraces on this beautiful home.

We can appreciate the drama with the space above. Velvet sofas, hand-carved wooden case pieces and tables, elegant lighting, and vaulted ceilings – this is what we would consider ideal for an unforgettable mountain escape.

No chalet is complete without a perfect place for apres-ski, and this decorated nook next to the hearth is everything we’d envision in our own interior design as well. We’ve gathered a few pieces from our own collection that we feel would seamlessly outfit an idyllic French chalet.
