Murano Glass Chandeliers & Modern Homes

Murano glass chandeliers & the homes they live in

Murano glass – a material we’re always talking, searching and obsessing over at Jean-Marc Fray Antiques. Jean-Marc and Jean-Noel are currently spending time in Venice doing just that! You may have seen some fun photos on our Instagram over the last couple of weeks. Whether it’s sourcing rare, antique pieces or designing new chandeliers and lamps – we’re always working with this exquisite material and style. On theme with their current buying trip, we’re talking all things Murano glass chandeliers on Le Blog this week. Specifically, how to mix this historic and unique glassware with modern interior design.

We sourced the image above through a quick search on Pinterest, but we would recommend using a similar chandelier from our gallery (of course)! This aquamarine Murano glass chandelier by Barbini is a striking and magnificent way to add color to a space filled with a primarily neutral color palette.

We love everything about this modern farmhouse kitchen. From the shiplap walls to the cornflower blue cabinets and mirrored kitchen island. The real statement in this image though, is the floral Murano glass chandelier. This is a great way to dress up an otherwise fairly simple space!

It’s no surprise that we love statement lighting at JMF, and we have a couple flower chandeliers in stock at the moment just like the image above. Both Murano glass, flower chandeliers are by Cenedese. Information for the chandelier on the top can be found here, and information about the chandelier on the bottom can be found here.

A cascading chandelier is always a good idea. We love the juxtaposition of this glamorous fixture against the vintage tulip table and chairs.

You too, can own a cascading Murano glass chandelier. We have a variety available, but this one is one of our favorites.

Sputnik chandeliers – a widely popular style right now in interior design. Authentic vintage design, prisms for days.

We seem to have a thing for the sputnik style, and have a wide variety of this style available in the gallery right now. To see a full range of our available lighting, click here.

Our Travels – Spring Break Series

Our European Travels

Working in the antiques industry is an amazing way to see the world. Our travels take us all over the globe sourcing the best pieces we can find, but our favorite place to return to while vacationing or searching for new pieces are Nice, France, Venice, Italy and Ventimiglia in Northern Italy.

Since March is the month of Spring break, we’re sharing some tidbits from our our travels. Enjoy!

Produce from local markets available in this part of the world is a cut above the rest. Walking around these markets in the early morning is one of our favorite pastimes.

Who doesn’t love indulging in local flavors during vacation? Pictured: the famous San Remo Linguini with Clams – our mouth is watering as we type…

Our favorite dish – Octopus galore!

This is where the magic happens – in the local flea markets. We find some of the best pieces, with the most incredible stories in the heart of the Cours Saleya Market in Nice. Jean-Marc grew up spending his weekends at this market unearthing items that spoke to him. Needless to say, this is a must-see if you ever find yourself in Nice!

Read more about Jean-Marc’s passion in the about section of our website!

And after a day of shopping and adventuring, there is nothing like the reprieve you feel while relaxing at the beach. We love the simplicity of European beaches and any time we’re able to spend by the water.

At the end of the day (as always), the best part of any time spent traveling is the time we get to spend with our family. We love this photo of Jean-Noel and Juliette!

We hope you’re able to take a moment to relax during the Spring break season – whether you’re traveling or having a stay-cation!

Glass Favorites of the Moment

Glass Favorites

Now that it’s February, we’re in the mood to talk about things we love. We are proud to have a high quality, unique offering of glass (and especially Murano glass) pieces in our showroom, and online. Jean-Marc and Jean-Noel travel all over Europe seeking out the most beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces they can find. And if you ask, they can probably tell you a story about each piece – where they found it, who owned it, intricate details about the different patterns and colors in the glass…the list goes on. We believe that when planning a design in your home, you want to source pieces that can be more than aesthetically pleasing. You want a conversation piece, something with a story or something that draws guests into the room. We’re very proud that our glass lighting and accessories have refined, historic elegance and have stood the test of time – making a definite decorative impact in any modern home. Check out some of our glass favorites below!

Large Stamped Murano Glass Lantern

This striking fixture catches the light through the stamped and textured Murano glass panes. We love the luminous aura and chevron designs! This piece exudes high quality and sophistication and will completely redefine any space.

Murano Glass “Avventurina” Gold Table Lamps

23 karat gold flecks make this pair of handblown Murano glass table lamps shimmer in appearance (”Avventurina” process).

Blue and Amber Art Deco Murano Glass Bowl

This handblown Art Deco Murano glass bowl is stunning in light amber, aquamarine blue, and a clear base. This one-of-a-kind piece is beautifully transparent and of the highest quality.

“Pulegoso” Murano Glass Vases

We adore this new three vase set made of handblown Murano glass. Each vase has a mercury lining, giving it a reflective green hue. The Pulegoso technique enhances the colors, leaving various sized bubbles in the glass. These vases are made by Alberto Donà.

Wavy “Avventurina” Murano Glass Bowl Set

More “Avventurina” pieces in our gallery right now! Beautiful hand-blown Murano glass bowls with a shimmering hue. These bowls feature wavy edges and have an organic air to them. The shimmery appearance comes from the 23-karat gold flecks in the clear glass (hence the term “Avventurina”).

Empire Style French Antique Crystal Chandelier

A new arrival you can’t pass up – this Empire style crystal chandelier with a gilt brass, embossed structure  features a lovely array of detailed cut crystals. Purchased in France – we think this piece would be excellent in a master bedroom, bathroom or entry.

Ceilings to Swoon Over

Dramatic ceilings and inspired lighting

It’s finally 2017, and we’re kicking up the drama. From dramatic lighting to case pieces – Jean-Marc Fray Antiques has it all. To support such exquisite works of art, we’re taking some time to appreciate dramatic ceilings anywhere from cathedrals and architectural wonders to simple apartments and hotels!

Geometric pops of color with brass details – we can’t get enough of this look at the Tilbury Hotel in Australia.

A gorgeous gold leaf ceiling provides texture and glamour to any room – even this one going through apparent renovations!

There’s something so warm and charming about an industrial space like the loft below. We especially love the scalloped brick details.

A must-see on any trip to Paris, we’re always enamored by the Sainte Chapelle. A photo doesn’t do the sweeping details and gothic relics justice.

What a grand ceiling – the perfect backdrop for our Murano glass chandeliers.

More and more details! Jaw-dropping design, stark white and regal.
