Give the gift of art

“Art is a form of love. Art is the ultimate gift. Art heals life.”

– Robert Genn

Christmas is right around the corner, and everyone is hustling and bustling to finish up their holiday shopping. It’s always a battle to find the right gift for every person in your life. Instead of purchasing a fleeting, trendy gift, buy something that will last a lifetime and always have a story to tell. Whether it’s for your parents, your siblings, clients, or a good friend – fine art is a fantastic sentimental gift to give to your loved ones. We’ve gathered some of our favorite art pieces available right now in our gallery, along with some additional gift ideas related to the wonderful world of art!

Neoclassic busts, statues and works of art in bronze, ceramics, terra cotta and more – make a perfect gift that your friends or family can put on display on their hearth, built-ins or buffets as pictured below! We especially love this Salvador Dali vintage stone sculpture bust.

Salvador-Dali-Vintage-Stone-Sculpture-Jean-Marc-Fray-Blog-Fine-Art

Another great sculpture, this Italian Art Deco period bronze horse with marble base is sure to make a statement in an office or living room.

On a larger scale, we absolutely love this French Art Deco period Etruscan horse head sculpture in terracotta. A finely detailed vintage majestic animal bust that evokes unmatched power and strength.

Who says lighting can’t be considered fine art? Our Murano glass collection and Mid-Century modern fixtures could be a perfect gift for newlyweds, a new homeowner, or even a collector. Our latest favorite? This Stilnovo style Murano glass and brass chandelier.

While on the subject of Murano glass, we always like to recommend purchasing a piece from our vase collection. We have a gorgeous pair of Murano “incamiciato” glass vases (one pictured below) with a pattern of large circles that are our current favorites. Master glassblower Sergio Costantini layered clear glass with “polvera d’oro” (23-karat gold leaf flecks) over a pristine white opaline glass to create this beautiful “incamiciato” glass. These have a slight iridescent quality, which radiates the light in a lovely array of colors. This beautiful pair of vases is of amazing quality. See what we mean by having a piece that tells a great story?!

Aah, sunburst mirrors. A classic for any home, and a piece of art simply because of the of the details!

And finally, you can’t go wrong with an original painting. From Katherine Houston to Meredith Pardue, we have a jaw-dropping collection from some of the best! See our full collection here.

Top 3 European-inspired Holiday Cocktails

The holiday season is officially here! In Austin, it usually doesn’t get chilly until December, and this year has been no exception…and that means it’s finally time for holiday parties.

Everyone knows that the most important part of any holiday party is the signature cocktail – and we want to share 3 of our absolute favorite European-inspired holiday cocktails you can make the next time you’re around the fire with friends! We’ve also paired them with some amazing cozy pieces we have in-store now that are sure to *spark* conversation.

Gluhwein

Every Christmas one of our best German friends drops off bottles of gluhwein at our door – and usually comes in to have a cup. Gluhwein is made by heating red wine with spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, star anise, citrus, sugar, and sometimes vanilla. Our friend’s recipe is “mit schuss” or, “with a shot” – in his opinion, the only way to drink it!

5oz gluhwein
1.5oz apple brandy or rum
Heat ingredients in a small pot or kettle on stove (don’t boil!) and pour into a mug – serve hot.

gluhwein_by_the_fire

Sit and sip your gluhwein while admiring this French 1950’s buffet in polished macassar. The brass trimmings, satinwood inlays, ebonized legs, chevron patterned marquetry and bright satinwood interior is sure to spark conversation.

The Holly

It’s no secret that we love Champagne. Who doesn’t?! But if you’ve ever had St. Germain (a French elderflower liquor), you’ll know the two were made for each other. We like to serve The Holly as an aperitif during the holidays with some chilled pomegranate seeds as a fun festive touch.

1oz St. Germain
Champagne (or dry sparkling white or rose wine)
5-10 chilled pomegranate seeds
Combine chilled Champagne and St. Germain in a champagne flute. Sprinkle pomegranate seeds in drink to finish.

Serve The Holly on this vintage French bar cart by Maison Baguès. Gilt brass faux bamboo and smoked glass come together in a sharp, flawless mid-century piece sure to bring your cocktails to life.

Irish Coffee

This one’s a classic – and in our opinion, nothing else warms you up on a cold night quite like this – adding a festive straw really creates some “wow” factor!

1 tsp brown sugar
1.5oz Irish whiskey
Brewed coffee
Fresh whipped cream & chocolate shavings
Stir brown sugar and coffee together in a clear mug until sugar dissolves. Stir in whiskey and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Cozy up with your Irish coffee in this vintage green leather english chesterfield armchair with tufted leather upholstery, brass tacks, rolled arms, and round wooden feet.
